# Plompe Toren

[Nederlands](https://toxopeus.ctxr.app/data/place/plompe-toren.md) • [English](https://toxopeus.ctxr.app/en/data/place/plompe-toren.md) • [Deutsch](https://toxopeus.ctxr.app/de/data/place/plompe-toren.md)

The Plompe Toren is a 15th-century church tower, a national monument in the Zuidkust van Schouwen nature area. It once stood in the middle of the prosperous village of Koudekerke. Floods swallowed the village; only the tower survived and served as a beacon for shipping on the Oosterschelde. From the viewing platform at 23 metres you look out over the salt-marsh fields, the enclosed polders and the Oosterschelde.

## What can you do here?

- Climb the tower and enjoy the view over the Oosterschelde.
- Birdwatching: in spring redshanks, black-tailed godwits and avocets, in winter thousands of barnacle and brent geese.
- Walk or cycle along the Oosterschelde dike.
