# Wing Bunker

[Nederlands](https://toxopeus.ctxr.app/data/place/vleugelbunker.md) • [English](https://toxopeus.ctxr.app/en/data/place/vleugelbunker.md) • [Deutsch](https://toxopeus.ctxr.app/de/data/place/vleugelbunker.md)

The Wing Bunker (command bunker 117a) was built in 1943 as a German command post from which the defence of Schouwen was directed, as part of the Atlantic Wall. The bunker measures about 24 by 14 metres, has 15 rooms and 3-metre-thick concrete walls. The name comes from the large concrete fin on one corner, which looks like a whale's tail or an aircraft wing. It lies between the Zeepeduinen and the Slotbos, within cycling distance of the holiday home.

## What can you do here?

- See a piece of Atlantic Wall history up close.
- Spot the striking 'whale tail' on the corner and the armoured observation dome on the roof.
- Combine it with a walk or bike ride through the Zeepeduinen and the Slotbos.

## Practical

- Address: Moolweg 4, 4328 LC Burgh-Haamstede.
- According to the tourist information, the bunker is open to the public on Saturday afternoons in the summer months. Please check the current opening hours beforehand.
- The bunker stands in the middle of nature: wear sturdy shoes.
