A special place that you can only experience with respect for the environment. At the end of the Hoosjesweg you go through a little gate onto the outer dike, with a view over the Oosterschelde.
With your dog
- On the outer dike your dog can run free.
- Normally there are no sheep, but sometimes they have escaped and roam loose. Watch out for this and keep your dog on a lead then.
- Always close the gate properly behind you.
- Pay attention to the signs on site.
What you can see
- Porpoises: when there is little wind, you regularly see and hear them. About 60 porpoises live in the Oosterschelde.
- Hares: you often see them here.
- Birds: during bird migration this is a popular spot for birdwatching.
Plan Tureluur
On both sides of the access route over the Hoosjesweg lies Plan Tureluur, a vulnerable bird reserve that also deserves respect. No dogs off the lead are allowed in Plan Tureluur itself.
Practical
- The Hoosjesweg is near Serooskerke (Schouwen), postcode 4327 SB.
- If you drive on, turning left along the dike, you can drive round the back towards restaurant De Heerenkeet.
