Dijkwater near Sirjansland was created after the North Sea flood of 1953. The land that was flooded at the time and not reclaimed remained nature. You will find remnants of creeks, brackish water, reed beds, woodland, old dikes and calcareous grassland. Rare plants and several orchids grow here. It is a fine destination for birdwatchers: geese and ducks breed here and spoonbills and egrets forage. Birds of prey and deer also live in the area.
