Nature

The Zeepeduinen lie just west of Burgh-Haamstede and have been a protected natural monument since 1988. The heart of the area is a large dune lake created by sand extraction. Many water birds swim there, such as coot, great crested grebe, tufted duck and little grebe, and a bird observation hut stands on the shore. Exmoor ponies roam the area, and there are endless paths to wander along.

The name comes from the Zeeland word “sepelen”, meaning to seep: groundwater seeps from the dunes into the lower land around them.
